Job Context
Research Director will lead the Research Team in achieving the desired research plans. S/he will
be responsible for research planning, resourcing management, development research capabilities, team
development and providing research-based report for policy related advancement and reforms. The
post is offered as a three-year contract initially with a strong expectation of extension for the right
candidate.
Job Description
- Develop and recommend research designs and solutions that best meet the objectives and
mandate of the organization. Drive the development of practical initiatives with resultoriented
outcomes that benefit the partners, private sector and the economy; - To initiate, lead, undertake and oversee research work for policy reform and advocacy.
Identify potential partners (development agencies/partners and others, etc.) and provide
suggestion on research strategies and approaches; - Deploy a proactive approach, and demonstrable research development work related to
Private Sector Development Policy Coordination Committee (PSDPCC) at the Prime
Minister’s Office and assist in developing better coordination on research, dialogue and
advocacy efforts. Help strengthen BUILD’s engagement in PSDPCC by contributing with
effective research work and support to various areas; - Identify new areas, develop and explore funding opportunities (including academic, private
and public sector funders), supporting policy-relevant research projects that employ a range
of economic and social research methods; assist other team members in designing future
projects; - Organize Thematic Working Committees of BUILD and guide Research Team to prepare and
present effective policy paper the working committee meeting; - Provide high level research advice and expertise to key internal and external stakeholders,
professional bodies and working committees to better inform policy development and
implementation. Also to be engaged in the project implementation work within the
organization; - Produce high quality reports, working papers and articles on various economic analysis with
key focus on economic indicators, fiscal and monetary policies, trade impact etc from time
to time. Prepare and conduct policy analysis/impact reports for implementable policy
reforms. Also conduct policy impact studies by doing deep dive/due-diligence on policies
from time to time; - Manage external relationships with donor organizations and public and private sector
bodies, foster research partnerships across organizational programs and projects to
capitalize on funding and resource opportunities. Identify potential partners (other
organizations/NGOs, universities, etc.); - Work independently on a number of research and policy projects simultaneously, as
required. Analyze quantitative data using robust methods, and interpret, describe and
publish findings. Also, engage stakeholders and provide recommendations on appropriate
scientific research strategies and pathways; - Develop research and analytical tools and practices that better enable research and
education and that target research programs to meet the needs of industry/community;

- PhD or Master’s degree from reputable institutions (home and abroad) Minimum 15-20 year
experience in leading research work in various capacities with two years of relevant
experience working within a public policy or policy-making environment (e.g. government,
NGO) required; - Research experience in areas of economic data analysis, national economy, knowledge and
experience in sector/community-based research, and have experience in program
development; - Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision to meet deadlines
and produce high quality results in an environment with competing priorities and deadlines
with diverse areas of professional backgrounds; - Experience working with a variety of public, private, non-profit and grassroots organizational
structures and do multi-task, meet deadlines and be persistent, and solve problems as they
arise; - Knowledge and experience in qualitative data analysis, including narrative analysis to sort
and organize large data sets and thematic coding to organize themes and concepts for
analytical interpretation, as well as the ability to interpret and synthesize data sets, draw
inferences, and arrive at conclusions; - Strong planning, coordination, and project management skills with exceptional oral and
written communication skills in Bangla and English; - Highly proficient and knowledgeable in the use of current computer software and tools such
as Microsoft Office Suites, word processing, spreadsheets, database systems and the
internet to research and prepare materials; - Knowledge and experience of program evaluation principles, theories, concepts and
practices. Demonstrated expertise in successfully designing and carrying out quantitative
and qualitative research and evaluation processes including Participatory Action Research.
Demonstrated ability in designing and manipulating data using a computer database; - Experience working with governing bodies, including boards of directors, advisory boards,
various agencies etc.
